Boarding & Training

Central Ohio’s leading boarding facility, focusing on the well-being of Ohio's happiest hunter/jumper horses.

The best reputation for horse care and training in Central Ohio.

It is the goal of every member of Bookmark Farms to treat you and your horse to the highest standard of care. Our professional staff, expansive facilities and friendly community offer boarders a comfortable home for horse and rider alike.

Bookmark Farms is located on 38 acres of rolling pasture land in beautiful horse country just east of Columbus, Ohio. The facility was constructed in the summer of 2000 and opened in November of the same year.

24-Hour On-Site Management

The Owner/Director and Maintenance person live on the property. At all times there is a member of the staff watching over the barn and monitoring the well-being of the horses.

Working with each horse’s owner, we advise and design a high-quality diet customized for each horse’s needs. Some of the feeds we offer are high quality pelleted low sugar senior feed mixed with alfalfa pellets, low starch pelleted feed, oats, barley, alfalfa, pellets, timothy cubes, and beet pulp. Bookmark  Farm’s Owner/Director Joan Promen has 45 years of experience in barn amangement and equine nutrition and may administer herbal supplements when deemed necessary.

In addition to hay and water five times every day, grain is given twice a day. Most of our hay comes from our organic fields and additional hay from long-term reputable hay dealer. Special feeding needs for boarders are always accomodated.

Smartpak or customized supplement baggies can be provided by the owner, or for an additional fee our staff will make up boarder baggies along with our school horses’ baggies. The distribution of these supplements are closely monitored by our staff.

Turnout & Exercise

Every horse is given the opportunity to stretch their legs every day, preferably outside if weather permits. During storms and when there is a slip hazard outside, a shorter period of turnout in the indoor arena is implemented.

Training programs are available to keep horses in top shape. Boarders who wish to ride are encouraged to call the barn so that horse can be chased prior to their arrival.

Additional Health Care

Our preferred vendors of chiropractic, farrier services, and dentistry will be brought in at the owner’s expense. Additionally we endorse the use of Eastern/Western medicine, equine massage, acupuncture, and maiofascia release when necessary. These services can be arranged as needed, or scheduled on a regular basis.

Stall Maintenance

Stalls are cleaned 2x/day (Pometimes 3 in summer). pine shaving bedding is refreshed daily. Stalls in the Gray Barn are 12′ x 12′. Water & feed buckets are cleaned and disinfected on a weekly basis. Heated buckets are used in the winter. Fans for the warm summer months are provided by owner and installed by the staff. Climate control is managed with a screened window in each stall. Winter blanket changing included in board.

In addition to our boarding fee, boarders also utilize our services. This translates into weekly lessons, training and schooling services, and/or participation in horse shows.
